COLAS RAIL ITALIA PARTICIPATES IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE “4 AXES OF STRENGTH” PROJECT FOR LOCAL PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN THE CITY OF GENOA

The Consortium of companies formed by ICM, Leonardo and Colas Rail Italia has been awarded the integrated tender contract for the “4 Axes of Strength ” local public transport project for the City of Genoa, the first municipality in Italy to award a tender with this level of complexity and innovation in urban mobility.

The total value of the contract is 177 million euro.

The contract includes executive design and the supply of civil works, plants, and technological infrastructure and envisages the construction of a zero-polluting trolleybus system, which operates on four routes, East (Levante), Center (Centro), West (Ponente) and Bisagno Valley, serving a total of 96 km.

Also included in the project are the construction of dedicated lanes to reduce interference with road traffic, the complete renovation of about 300 shelters and stops, the implementation of a traffic light priority system, and the provision of innovative flash charging technology, applied for the first time in Italy. In addition, the new trolleybus system includes catenary-free sections of the route, a solution adopted in order to minimize the impact of overhead infrastructure and promote the integration of the transport system with existing urban infrastructure.

  • Lot 1: about 43 km of trolleybus network with self-compensating elastic suspension system and 15 substations.
  • Lot 2: about 13 km of fast-charging E-bus system and 5 substations.
